Two top officials from the Bush administration met with exile leaders yesterday and were met with frustration concerning the idiotic wet/dry foot policy. Let's hope they listened and changes will occur!
As usual, it was a luncheon with a lot of wording in the air, but THEY DIDN'T GO MEET THE CUBAN COMMUNITY WITH A SOLUTION IN HAND. Then, how do we know that those leaders actually represent the cross section of the exile community and not only a group with their own interests? Why don't these "top officials" don't meet with the families of the illegally returned refugees? I have a lot of questions....
I was struck by the reluctance of the American officials to say anything specific about the Seven-Mile-Bridge 15 and the overall situation in Cuba. I am left wondering what exactly is our current policy towards Cuba. The government bans the Cuban baseball team from the World Baseball Classic — which I believe is a mistake — while at the same time condemning the SMB-15 to a return to the gulag. At best, that is a mixed signal, at worse, it is evidence of a lack of purpose on the part of the U.S. government.

We will see if this is rhetoric or if they will act. History lends itself to rhetoric.
