Oscar's Cuba LA

Historically, international campaigns have been instrumental in protecting political prisoners from the harshest treatment, and ultimately gaining their release from oppressive governments. The cases of former political prisoners such as Nelson Mandela and Armando Valladares exemplify the success of this type of campaign.

In Cuba, thousands of such prisoners have been incarcerated in Castro's tropical gulag. Not many have benefited from this high-level advocacy, because their plight has been largely unknown to those outside the Cuban community. These incarcerated heroes, many doubly victimized by Cuba's institutionalized racism, remain the invisible victims of the barbaric repression, terror and aggression of the Castro regime.

"Oscar's Cuba," a powerful new documentary produced by the Pan-American Development Foundation and In Altum Productions, can change that invisibility. "Oscar's Cuba" illustrates the plight of Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience, black physician Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet and others like him. They were part of the 2003 Black Spring crackdown in which 75 dissidents were rounded up and arbitrarily sentenced to as much as 28 years in prison.

We must point out the urgency of this (57 min.) film distribution, as we just recently had the misfortune of losing another true hero, political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo, and a humble black worker. He died from neglect after 86 days on a hunger strike protesting the repeated violations of his human rights.

The plight of Dr. Biscet and the Cuban prisoners of conscience must be denounced worldwide. This documentary will open the eyes of the world to see the injustices being carried out against those who dare to pacifically oppose Castro's totalitarian dictatorship.

Now more than ever it is necessary to support the worldwide distribution of a documentary that highlights the plight of Cuba's hidden heroes. Your solidarity and economic support for this project can save the lives of those who are risking everything so that all can enjoy freedom.

We hope to count on your generous donation, it is for a very worthwhile cause.

God and these heroes will thank you.

(Truly yours, .
