En la madrugada del domingo el 30 de septiembre Gorki, el líder de la banda cubana de Rock Porno para Ricardo y Renay Kairus - el baterista, venían regresando de una fiesta. Ellos estaban esperando el autobús cuando unos policías se acercaron y le pidieron sus documentos de identidad. Un momento después Gorki escuchó “ahora entréguennos las pastillas ”. Gorki sufre de epilepsia desde que era niño y lleva...ba consigo ese día unas píldoras de Tradea para su padecimiento que le recetó un medico estando el en México.
El lunes por la tarde, a las 5 pm fue puesto en libertad bajo fianza. Él será llevado juicio por la “posesión de drogas controladas”. La fecha del juicio aún no ha sido establecida.
Las autoridades cubanas han estado tratando de silenciar a Gorki desde hace muchos años, sus canciones llevan un mensaje de libertad que no le gusta a la dictadura cubana. Pasó dos años en prisión (2003-2005) por tenencia de sustancias ilegales. sustancias que también eran medicamentos. En 2008 fue acusado de ” peligrosidad social pre-delictiva”. Y gracias a la presión de la opinión pública internacional se las arregló para no ir a la cárcel. Él “ganó” el juicio y solo fué condenado a pagar una multa por supuesta “desobediencia civil”.
Esta vez las autoridades quieren llevarlo a juicio por el hecho de simplemente estar enfermo. La Epilepsia es una enfermedad muy grave que debe ser tratada con fuertes medicamentos psicotrópicos. Las leyes cubanas prohíben y castigan con severas sanciones de cárcel la tenencia de estos medicamentos sin receta médica. Gorki será juzgado por el hecho de que sus medicamentos fueron comprados en México y fueron recetados por un médico no cubano. El tiene documentos que prueban su enfermedad. No podemos permitir que las autoridades cubanas pongan en práctica su idea cruel de castigar a un hombre por el hecho de tratar de llevar una vida normal.
Si Gorki es enviado a la cárcel, no podrá continuar con su terapia. La Epilepsia puede terminar matándolo. Va a ser una sentencia de muerte. La idea de silenciar a un hombre cuyo único delito es expresarse libremente y escribir canciones en contra de un gobierno es salvaje e inaceptable.
Te pedimos tu ayuda. Publiquemos una foto nuestra con palabras de apoyo a Gorki, con tu protesta contra este intento del gobierno cubano de encarcelarlo por cargar con los medicamentos que le permiten vivir. En el último álbum de Porno para Ricardo, Gorki canta “Cuando levanté la mano para decir lo que pienso y protestar, no había nadie, todos se fueron, ninguno quiso hablar. (… ) Cuando fui a ver a mis amigos para tomar juntos y caminar, no había nadie, todos me huyen porque los puedo complicar. ” Vamos a mostrarle a Gorki que no está solo en su lucha ahora.

On the early Sunday morning on September 30th Gorki, the leader of the Cuban rock band Porno para Ricardo and Renay Kairus - the drummer, were coming back home from the party. They were waiting for the bus when police officers approached them and asked for their IDs. A moment later Gorki heard “now give us the pills”. Gorki has been suffering from epilepsy since he was a child and was carrying pills of a medication called Tradea for his condition which were prescribed by a doctor in Mexico.
On Monday evening, at 5 p.m. he was released on bail. He will be put into trial for the “possession of controlled drugs”. The date of the trial has not been established yet.
Cuban authorities have been trying to silence Gorki for many years now because his songs send the message of freedom which Cuban authorities do not approve. He spent two years in prison (2003-2005) for possession of illegal substances, substances which were medications as well. In 2008 he was accused of “potential social dangerousness”. And thanks to the pressure of international public opinion he managed to stay out of jail. He “won” the trial - he was just sentenced to pay a fine for “social disobedience”.
This time authorities want to put him on trial for the fact that he is simply sick. Epilepsy is a very serious disease which must be treated with strong psychotropic medications. Cuban law strictly prohibits and severely punishes with imprisonment the possession of such medicaments without medical prescription. Gorki will stand in trial for the fact that his medications were bought in Mexico and they were subscribed by a non-Cuban doctor. He has documents proving his serious sickness. We cannot allow Cuban authorities to implement their cruel idea of punishing a man for the fact that he is just trying to live normally.
If Gorki will be sent to jail he will not be able to continue his therapy. Not treated epilepsy will finally kill him. It will be a death sentence. The idea of silencing the man whose only fault is that he speaks out his mind and sings the songs which lyrics are contrary to the official government policy is savage and unacceptable.
We ask for your help. Post your picture with words of support for Gorki. With your protest against the idea of Cuban government to punish Gorki for the fact that he was having medications which allow him to live. Let’s express our objections not only with our signatures. Let’s show our faces. Let the Cuban authorities see how look the people who object to their policy which contradicts the logic and violates the basic human rights.
