"Freedom by the Pound"

From Babalu blog:

On July 28th, 2010, Ariel Sigler Amaya arrived in Miami weighing a mere 116 pounds. Looking like a holocaust victim, Ariel was a paraplegic and on the brink of death after spending 7 years in a Castro prison for opposing the dictatorial regime. Along with his two brothers Miguel and Guido, Ariel was part of 75 peaceful democracy activists, independent journalists and librarians arrested by the Castro dictatorship during the Black Spring of 2003 and sentenced to long prison terms.

Along with the other prisoners of conscience languishing behind bars in Castro's prisons, Ariel -- an athlete and a heavyweight boxer weighing 220 pounds -- suffered unspeakable acts of humiliation and torture both physically and mentally. During his last two years incarcerated, Ariel's body began to succumb to the daily torture of prison, and as he became sicker and sicker, his weight began to drop and he eventually became a paraplegic. However, though the regime had managed to break Ariel's body, they were never able to break his spirit.

Freedom has an amazing therapeutic effect on a man, and with Ariel's warrior spirit still intact it was only a matter of time before his body would begin to recover. For more than three months Ariel has been training harder than he ever trained before as a champion boxer, and what seemed unthinkable a short 3 months ago, Ariel's spirit, determination, and a heavy dose of freedom has made the impossible, possible. Ariel's health and body has progressed so much that even his doctors have been left amazed.

The following is a short film George and I shot of Ariel a couple of weeks ago during one of his workouts at his home. We had the good fortune that his doctor, Dr. Orlando Rodriguez, was visiting him at the time and we were able to film his thoughts on Ariel's progress.

In this film you will be able to see just how far Ariel has come in such a short period of time, and it is a testament not only to his courage and will, but also to the wonders of freedom. Ariel has gained 30 pounds since arriving in freedom, and his doctor tells us he may be standing and taking a few steps before the year is over. Nothing strikes more fear into the Castro dictatorship than witnessing the power of freedom, and one can say that Ariel Sigler Amaya's miraculous recovery can be measured as freedom by the pound.

Reforms...Baseball....Seminary opens...simply deflections

blah..blah..blah... 51 years of the ONE(dictatorship) family running Cuba at their whim. The dictatorship again with a deflection technique to hide what is a fact: CUBA IS NOT FREE!!!!

What they have underestimated and forgotten: the CUBAN PEOPLE. Cuba will be FREE and will again belong to CUBANS. Justice will be served and believe me, documentation for the last 51 years has been recorded concerning all the atrocities and a list of all of the sympathizers of these communist thugs. So when this evil is lifted, we will not believe or hear: “I did not know”I had to do what I had to do” Just did it for better relations”

This is a fight between GOOD and evil, plain and simple! 51 years of a brutal regime can not be excused or covered up by the SYMPATHIZERS. Hate Cuban-Americans and the Cuban people if you must, but you the MEDIA and the dictator friends, you know in your heart of hearts, you cannot JUSTIFY this and you know that your wrong. Why is it your always trying to silence us, but NEVER the apartheid DICTATORSHIP? AFRAID of the TRUTH?

No, it’s not about the dictator, raulita, “tricky ricky’ alarcon, carlito”wrong way” lage, “cuidado que te voy a dar un tiro” valdes, cigars, the jineteras, cheap vacations, visiting Hemingway’s place, all the 50’s cars, trade, etc…

It’s about the CUBAN people and FREEDOM. A right that God gave us and that NO MAN shall take away.

You can try to cloudy the situation with different issues and justifications, but the sad TRUTH is that the CUBAN people are not FREE!

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

THE CUBAN PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE

Cuba's market reforms? "Cuba's Rescue Plan Opens Doors to Market Reforms" Give me a BREAK!!! The Cuban dictatorship has been a total failure and even the old crusty dictator has admitted the revolution has been a  total failure!!! Raulita is not stupid, he is trying to prolong his power and parlay it to the next generation of castro's.

The obvious answer in which even the media and dictator supporters know and will never say is: FREEDOM!!

"Young Boy strip searched by TSA"

From the Drudge Report.

Can you believe this? I am sure they would never do this to a let's say.... arabic(can I say that without being called intolerant?) looking person who fits a certain profile, but they do this to a KID????

This from the person who took the video:

"Lets get the facts straight first. Before the video started the boy went through a metal detector and didn't set it off but was selected for a pat down. The boy was shy so the TSA couldn't complete the full pat on the young boy. The father tried several times to just hold the boys arms out for the TSA agent but i guess it didn't end up being enough for the guy. I was about 30 ft away so i couldn't hear their conversation if there was any. The enraged father pulled his son shirt off and gave it to the TSA agent to search, thats when this video begins.

******* THIS VIDEO OCCURRED AT SALT LAKE CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON NOVEMBER 19TH AT AROUND THE TIME OF 12:00 PM **********"

Íngrid Betancourt elogia a Hugo Chávez

"you my boy blue-raul!"

Archbishop Thomas Wenski wrote an article in the Issues and Ideas section of the Miami Herald. His message was of hope. Very good message indeed and we all need "HOPE" to carry through difficult times.

The Cuban people have been "HOPING" for FREEDOM  for 51 years!! Yes, a new seminary is good, but Cuba NEEDS FREEDOM!

The presence of a dictator at the inauguration ceremony for the seminary sends what kind of message? When the dictator is refered to as "President" when in fact no elections EVER took place, sends what kind of message? No reference to Dr. Biscet who languishes in a Cuban prison simply for speaking out against ABORTION and for the lack of FREEDOM...sends what kind of message??
