6) You want something REALLY Authentic: Get some rafts, inner tubes, or any floatation device, and at the crack of dawn, take to the water, and for kicks, see how long it takes you to get to Miami!!!

The mayor of DeBary, Fla., wants to do something similar by making a homemade raft in Cuba, and then rowing back 90 miles to Miami. Why? Is this some new reality show Cuban rafters? Any way to make this more authentic, El cafe Cubano has a few suggestions:

-While in Cuba building your raft, criticize the Cuban dictatorship for kicks and let the security apparatus know the exact escape plan!

-March with the Damas de Blanco on a Sunday

-If you encounter any problems while floating around, NO HELP from the Coast Guard or anyone,to get that real AUTHENTIC BALSERO FEEL.

The AP and other news outlets are just FOAMING at the mouth, plus they are posting non-stop articles about Americans traveling to Cuba and POOF Cuba will just change automatically.

Since El Cafe Cubano can't compete with the non-stop propaganda from the news outlets, this blog has decided to help those who travel to Cuba with some tips or things TO DO while in Cuba:


Here is a top 10 list:

1) BONUS: When you step off the plane in Havana, make sure you hit the local watering hole for some mojitos, and while toasting, make sure you say REAL LOUD: ME CAGO EN FIDEL

REPEAT: ME CAGO EN FIDEL

By saying this I am SURE you will be upgraded in your accommodations!


2) Go to your local Hospital or Clinic and get yourself a check up or better yet some surgery. Remember go to the one that are usually reserved for locals, to get that AUTHENTIC local flavor!!!


3) For you Architecture lovers, since Cuba has been unspoiled for 55 years, stay in those Art Deco buildings(the ones you see Crumbling all over)  for the REAL Cuba feeling. Electricity and running water are optional.

4)This is really cool...... Get yourself in a 1953 Ford taxi, feel like your stuck in a time warp, and ENJOY YOURSELF to some Cohibas while touring all the land, buildings, and Houses stolen by the regime. Try to facebook, twitter, and snapchat while doing this....


5) Volunteer at your local political prison while wearing your Che t-shirt


6) You want something REALLY Authentic: Get some rafts, inner tubes, or any floatation device, and at the crack of dawn, take to the water, and for kicks, see how long it takes you to get to Miami!!!

9) Bring some extra cash for a smoke a thon with Fidel(depends if he is really alive or not)

Two churches have been demolished and several church leaders arrested in the latest state crackdown in Cuba.

Both churches were part of the Apostolic Movement which is unregistered by the Cuban government and were destroyed without warning on January 8, according to Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).

"Just after 4am police and state security agents broke down the door and handcuffed Reverend Bernardo de Quesada Salomon and his wife Damaris, taking them to two separate prisons while the demolition took place," said a statement from the religious freedom charity.
"Damaris was released at around 1pm while Rev de Quesada Salomon was dropped off by state security after 3pm, after the church had been destroyed. Their son was handcuffed and held in the house during the demolition of the open-air structure."

The demolitions follow aborted attempts to destroy an Assemblies of God church in Santiago, Cuba, last November. Officials halted the planned destruction after church members held a sit-in at the church building.
However this time a number of other church leaders in Cuba were "arbitrarily detained or confined to their homes by state security agents," CSW said, "presumably to stop them from going to support the churches being demolished".
Church leaders in Cuba have pointed to the "worrying context" of these latest demolitions. Last year alone, 2,000 churches were declared illegal and over 100 were designated for demolition.
Chief executive of CSW, Mervyn Thomas, said he was deeply concerned by the events and branded the treatment of the two pastors "unacceptable".
"Contrary to the hopes of many that political dialogue with United States and the European Union would lead to more freedom in Cuba, over the past year we have seen a severe regression in terms of freedom of religion or belief and shrinking space for religious groups to operate," he said.
"We call on the EU and the US to make freedom of religion or belief a central component of its dialogues with Cuba and to insist on improvement in this area."

Meaning of Christmas? I am still learning and yearning for the TRUE meaning of Christmas. Yes, our Lord savior was born for us, but over the years myself and many need to be reminded of this message. True sacrifice for others, how many have died or are in prison standing up for FREEDOM and for an entire country! You can't put that in a box or in a Christmas card.

We all are given special gifts! God has blessed me with a beautiful, loving, and most caring(should get bonus points for this!) wife and wonderful children!

I have been blessed with the greatest parents! Always there with a smile and a "how can I help you!" I really don't know how to thank you. God bless you my dear parents!

On Sunday, October 28, 2007, in Vatican Square, the first native born Cuban was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI, the last step on the road to sainthood and the fartherest that any Cuban has ever gotten on that road. His name is José López Piteira, born on February 2, 1912, in the town of Jatibonico, Camaguey Province. He was ordained a deacon on September 8, 1935, the feast of Our Lady of Charity, patroness of Cuba. He died a martyr for the faith at the hands of the Communists, killed not in Cuba but in Spain, during its Civil War (1936-39). He was 24 years old, the youngest of 50 Augustinian monks from the El Escorial Monastery to be executed at the orders of Santiago Carrillo, the political commissar of Madrid personally responsible for the murder of 3000 priests, nuns and other religious. They were variously crucified, burnt at the stake, or, as in the case of Fray José and his companions, shot by firing squad, at Paracuellos de Jarama, November 30, 1936. Yes, in the 20th century; within living memory; only 70 years ago. He did not have to die. He was a Cuban citizen and could have saved himself by invoking his nationality, but he refused to abandon his brothers in Christ and insisted on sharing their fate.

His last words, all too familiar to another generation of Cubans, were ¡Viva Cristo Rey!

Fray José will be beatified along with 495 other martyrs of the Spanish Civil War. This will be the largest beatification in the 2000-year history of the Church. Although the pope does not personally officiate at beatifications anymore, he will do so this time to punctuate the importance of this occasion and the Church's displeasure with the historical revisionism of Spain's governing Socialist Party, political allies and heirs to the killers of Blessed Fray José López Piteira and the other martyrs for the faith.

What is Beatification?

The declaration by the pope as head of the Church that one of its communicants has lived a saintly life as a believer or died a heroic death as a martyr and is dwelling in the happiness of heaven. (Yes, there is now a Cuban in heaven!). Those who have been declared Blessed are entitled to veneration by the faithful. Prayers may be raised to them; their images may be placed in churches and their feast days celebrated, especially in localities and orders associated with their lives. The difference between saints and the blessed is that saints are not merely entitled to local veneration, but must be venerated by the Universal Church. For one who is Blessed to be canonized (declared a saint) two miracles must be attributed to his intercession. God willing, perhaps the first miracle that Blessed Fray José will perform will be the liberation of Cuba from Communism.
