Fundamento:
Cuba muestra una situación crítica, la decadencia de la tiranía se manifiesta en la evidente destrucción de la sociedad.
Los cubanos sufrimos la violación de las libertades y derechos fundamentales, sobrevivimos sumidos en la miseria y la carencia de oportunidades de progreso.
Con la salida del Sr. Fidel Castro del poder, por incapacidad física y mental insuperable, urge impedir la Sucesión dinástica que pretende perpetuar el régimen totalitario.
Se impone el Cambio hacia un estado de derecho, que impere la justicia y la equidad social.
La Transición a la democracia no es una opción sino la única posibilidad de poner fin a tanto sufrimiento y dolor.
Los que usurpan la soberanía y controlan el poder no tienen la voluntad ni la disposición de concedernos el derecho a vivir dignamente y con decoro.
Nuestra alternativa es buscar las vías para que amplios sectores sociales se vinculen a esta lucha y acepten el desafío de superar el Miedo que domina y paraliza.
Condiciones estas que determinan la creación del “Frente Patriótico Nacional”, cuya estrategia consiste en adoptar la Desobediencia Civil para alcanzar la ansiada Libertad.
Todos los cubanos sin distinción quedan convocados a unir esfuerzos en este Frente Común para trabajar juntos por la solución de los graves problemas de la Nación.
Misión:
Desarrollar una campaña de Desobediencia Civil por todo el país hasta lograr Cambios políticos que conduzcan a la Transición hacia un sistema Democrático, y, de ese modo, impedir que se materialice la Sucesión dinástica, o sea, el traspaso definitivo del poder del exgobernante Fidel Castro a su hermano Raúl, que intenta asegurar la permanencia del sistema totalitario y, por tanto, la opresión como destino de los cubanos.
Objetivo:
Crear conciencia en amplios sectores de la sociedad respecto a la imperiosa necesidad de que la Nación cubana transite de modo pacífico a la Democracia. En este sentido, aunar los esfuerzos de los cubanos que no acepten la continuidad del castrismo y servir de herramienta para a través de Acciones concretas, no violentas, luchar hasta alcanzar la Libertad.
Premisa:
Dios concibió a los seres humanos con capacidad de vida eterna, libertad de espíritu y fortaleza al obrar por la razón. El Cambio está en ti, solo depende de tu Convicción.
Organigrama:
El FPN tendrá una dirección nacional colegiada (Consejo Directivo Nacional). Los acuerdos se adoptarán por el voto del 51 por ciento de sus miembros.
Contará con una directiva en cada provincia, y, a su vez, con delegaciones municipales.

Mini-me helps terrorists enter U.S.

WASHINGTON – Venezuela, whose leader Hugo Chavez has stood with Iran against the U.S., is providing documents that could help terrorists infiltrate the U.S.-Mexico, charges a new congressional report on homeland security.
Venezuela is providing support – including identity documents – that could prove useful to radical Islamic groups," says the report of the subcommittee on investigations of the House Homeland Security Committee. "The Venezuelan government has issued thousands of cédulas, the equivalent of Social Security cards, to people from places such as Cuba, Colombia and Middle Eastern nations that host foreign terrorist organizations."
The documents can be used to obtain Venezuelan passports and American visas, which in turn allow the holder to elude immigration checks and enter the United States.
The report found that the Chavez government has issued thousands of these identity documents that could help terrorists elude immigration checks and enter the United States.
"The potential is certainly there for terrorists to infiltrate the U.S. through Mexico," said Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who chaired the subcommittee. "We apprehended five Pakistanis on the U.S. Mexico border with fraudulent Venezuelan documents."
The report, "A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border," says the number of aliens other than Mexican, known as OTM, illegally crossing the border has grown at an alarming rate over the past several years.
Aliens from "special interest" countries known to harbor terrorists or promote terrorism are routinely encountered and apprehended according to the report. The countries include Iran, Syria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Federal law enforcement personnel told the subcommittee's staff it is difficult to provide the total number of special interest aliens entering the U.S. because they pay large amounts of money, between $15,000 and $60,000, to employ the more effective Mexican alien smuggling organizations and are less likely to be apprehended.
In August, an Afghani man was found swimming across the Rio Grande River in Hidalgo, Texas. Last July in Jim Hogg County, Border Patrol agents found a discarded jacket with patches from countries where al-Qaida is known to operate. The patches feature Arabic-language martyrdom slogans that read "way to eternal life" and depict a jetliner crashing into the World Trade Center towers.
McCaul is concerned that Chavez is turning Venezuela into a staging area for terrorism in America's backyard.
"We know that Mr. Chavez in Venezuela has openly embraced the Islamic jihad world," he said. "We know that Hezbollah operatives have been given safe haven in Venezuela. So the threat is very real."
Last year, FBI Director Robert Mueller Jr. revealed to members of Congress that "individuals from countries with known al-Qaida connections have attempted to enter the United States illegally using alien smuggling rings and assuming Hispanic appearances."
He also testified that a Hezbollah cell had been "dismantled" after discovering that the terror organization was smuggling operatives across the U.S. -Mexico border to carry out terror attacks inside the U.S.
The McCaul report also points out that radical Islamic groups that support Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamiya Al Gamat are all active in Latin America.
"Given the ever-present threat posed by al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations – a threat that has been underscored by the recent events in London and the vulnerability of our borders – the need for immediate action to enforce our borders could not be more apparent," says the report.
Man Sews his Mouth Shut
Havana, October 24, 2006- It is 5:45 p.m. today, Tuesday, October 24th. At this moment my telephone conversation has just finished with the prisoner Juan Carlos Herrera Acosta, a Varela Project organizer who is serving 20 years of unjust imprisonment in the dreary kilo 8 prison in Camagüey province. He told me that the second in command of the State Security in this Province had allowed him to call me, which is extraordinary, considering that yesterday he was released from a punishment cell in which he had been confined for 21 days.
Juan Carlos had been dragged through the floor, beaten and locked up in the punishment cell living side by side with rats in the most inhumane conditions that one can imagine. Why? Because he had protested when they had prohibited him from speaking on the phone. The State Security and the prison authorities, the protagonists of these tortures, prohibited his use of the phone because he would denounce the abuses and inhumane conditions to which the political and common prisoners are subjected to. Juan Carlos states: "if there were no mistreatment and abuse I would not have to denounce them."
But the solution of the State Security is to punish him further and to isolate him. Now they have warned Juan Carlos that they will inspect his mail, something that they always do and that they never warn about. They have also warned him that he cannot speak about any political topics, nor about the inhumane abuses in this prison, nor issue denunciations, because if he does they will block his communication and he will be prohibited from speaking. Today he spoke with me to tell me that from this moment on he would sew his mouth. I have asked him not to do it- I am not ashamed to say that I begged it of him- telling him that it is us who still have the opportunity to speak out, that it is us who have to defend the dignity and the rights of those who are reduced to total disadvantage under truly perverse treatment. On other occasions, Juan Carlos has sewed his mouth- we do not want him to do it again. Let's not allow this to happen.
His sealed mouth will not only be a denunciation against his jailers, but also a shame upon those who in Cuba and around the world remain silent in the face of the cruel and degrading treatment in Cuban prisons. God willing he will not do it, but he has done it before, and he sews his mouth with a wire that he passes between his lips. I warned him that I was not going to support that, that this decision is against the will of all his brothers and that he does not have to go to such extremes, since we would denounce the violations that he and many other prisoners are suffering.
But he has already done it once. God willing he will not do it again. I also said to him: “we are not your judges, but your brothers.” That is why, all those who read this denunciation, before questioning Juan Carlos psychologically, before daring to judge him, should ask themselves: “What have I done in the face of this horror that so many human beings live through day to day in Cuban jails?”
Juan Carlos, you do not have to sew your mouth closed, but rather the hearts of your jailers should open so that some humanity can enter them. It is not your mouth which needs to sewed, but rather those whom human prudence advised towards silence should free their ears and remove their gags.

Saint Anthony Mary Claret
Today is the feast day of Saint Anthony Mary Claret. Let us ask God through the intercession of St. Anthony Mary Claret for a FREE Cuba and to the end the apartheid system in Cuba. Why this saint? He spent time in Cuba and just a little backgound:
"Then he was assigned as archbishop of Cuba. Not having had an archbishop for fourteen years, the island was in need of renewal. Anthony reorganized the seminary training, preached in all the churches, heard confessions, and guided people to Christ. He worked for updated farm methods and credit unions. He wanted the people to own their own farms, knowing that this would improve family life. He made enemies by teaching black slaves. Fifteen times people tried to assassinate him. Once a man stabbed him and was given a death sentence, but Anthony had this changed to a prison sentence. "
Who better to ask for help? Remember my freedom loving brethren: "Whatever you ask in my name I will do, so as to to glorify the Father and the Son. anything you ask in my name I will do." (John 14:13-14)
I know many will say that for over 47 years we have been asking and praying, and nothing?Let's not give up and collectively ask and pray today, since we have a saint who lived in Cuba, and you know he has a special place in his heart for Cuba.

La Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil, quiere dar a conocer la siguiente información sobre el 1 Congreso de Bibliotecas Independientes:
La BI María Cabrales, realizó el viernes 20 de octubre de 2006, una actividad por el Congreso, en la que participaron 14 disidentes, la directora de la biblioteca es Noelia Pedraza Jiménez. La dirección es Prolongación de Martha Abreu No. 93 C entre B y C, Reparto virginia, Santa Clara. Durante la reunión se discutió sobre la importancia de los libros y su lectura, y en particular de las bibliotecas.
El día 17 de octubre de 2006, en horas de la mañana se efectuó una reunión de 3 bibliotecas de Cienfuegos, en la sede de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil en esta provincia, sita en Ave. 64 No. 7504 entre 75 y 77, Reparto Tulipán, Cienfuegos, teléfono 5343 515805. Se debatió la situación de las bibliotecas, el acoso que existe por la policía política y la escasez de literatura que tienen. Como enfrentar estos retos, para darle cumplimiento a los acuerdos del Congreso de Bibliotecas de dar actividades en la misma. Estuvieron presentes los directores de las bibliotecas: José A. García Taguada, Martiana Independiente y Jóvenes de Jagua.
El día 20 de octubre de 2006, también en horas de la mañana, en la sede de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil de Cienfuegos, se reunieron para celebrar el día de la Cultura Cubana, y en particular el día de las bibliotecas, se explicó cómo se está llevando a la población, literatura que pueda leer, sin prohibiciones. Estaban presentes personas que nunca habían participado en actividades y pudieron oír las opiniones y la forma de trabajar de todas las bibliotecas.
Estas dos informaciones fueron dadas por Pedro Castellanos, delegado en Cienfuegos de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil.
El día 20 de octubre del 2006, a las 4 de la tarde, se realizó una actividad en la BI Walt Whitman, sita en la calle 1ra. No. 5, Reparto José Martí, en Camagüey. Se tocó el tema de la Lectura sin Censura una Opción para Formar Hombres Libres de la autoría de Ramón Colás. Entonaron las notas del Himno Nacional e hicieron un brindis a favor de la definitiva libertad de Cuba.
El día 20 de octubre del 2006, el Partido Cubano Demócrata Cristiano a las 8 pm, en su sede, en el domicilio de su delegado Roberto Marrero de la Rosa, sito en 4ta. Paralela No. 583 entre San José y Miguel Gómez, Final, Reparto Flora, en Camagüey, celebró una actividad, con el motivo de dar apoyo y respaldo incondicional al 1er. Congreso de Bibliotecas Independientes y la Campaña de No Cooperación con la Dictadura. Se condenó enérgicamente el abuso de que han sido objeto varios bibliotecarios y presos políticos, por parte de los agentes de la Seguridad del Estado y sus secuases, se dio a conocer la importancia del Congreso para la oposición interna, y por esta razón se debatió ampliamente toda la información que poseen sobre el mismo.
Estas dos informaciones fueron ofrecidas por José Antonio Mola Porro, delegado en Camagüey de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil.

Comunicado No. 100/06
La Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil, quiere dar a conocer la siguiente información, sobre el I Congreso de Bibliotecas Independientes:
Miguel santana Breto de la Alianza Democrática Oriental, le comunicó a la Asamblea que el lunes 18 de octubre de 2006, a las 8 y 30 de la mañana, le hicieron un registro en la casa a Eliécer Consuegra Rivas, calle Celia Sánchez Manduley No. 33, Antilla, Holguín, y le ocuparon todos los libros de la Biblioteca Independiente Wenceslao Aguilera. Está citado para la unidad de la policía. Hay que destacar que su biblioteca, no se encuentra en Congreso.
También reporta, que a las 3:45 de la tarde del día 20 de octubre del 2006, un disidente de Holguín, nombrado Juan Carlos Reyes Ocaño, le comunicó _vía telefónica- que al Presidente del Movimiento Claridad, Lorenzo García, le decomisaron la biblioteca, todos los libros, una máquina de escribir, una plancha de plasticar, un radio, entre otras cosas. Tanto el decomiso como el disidente, fueron conducidos al Foso Judicial. Esta biblioteca tampoco se encuentra en Congreso.
En Pinar del Río se celebró una actividad el día 20 de octubre, en la BI Elena Mederos, su directora es Blanca Rivera Sánchez, está en la calle Alameda 266 entre Proyecto e Isabel Rosas, en Pinar del Río. El objetivo fue saludar el Congreso y el día de la Cultura Nacional. Asistieron varios miembros de la sociedad civil, bibliotecarios independientes y activistas pro democracia. Se acordó por varias bibliotecas, que estaban allí representadas por sus directores, comenzar en Congreso por la democracia. Ellas son: Levi Marrero, Olga Digna Fernández, Martin Luther King, Polo Montañez y Simón Bolívar.
Manuel Rodríguez Chirolde, director de la BI Olga Digna Fernández, sita en Ave. Rafael Ferro No.638, en Pinar del Río, el día 5 de octubre a las cinco de la tarde fue hostigado por un oficial de la Seguridad del Estado que se hizo nombrar Juan Carlos, acompañado de los "factores" de la zona donde él vive. Vecinos del barrio, con mucho miedo, le dijeeron que los "factores" están vigilando que a su biblioteca no vayan personas que no sean los que acostumbran a ir, y si esto ocurre, el CDR (Comité de Defensa de la Revolución) tiene que informar inmediatamente, para comunicárselo a la Seguridad del Estado.
Esta información de la provincia de Pinar del Río, llegó a la Asamblea a través de su delegado Eliosbel Garriga.
El 22 de octubre del 2006, se realizó la primera actividad de la BI El Apóstol, sita en calle 8 No.25 entre B y C Reparto Simoni, Camagüey. Se habló sobre la importancia de la lectura sin censura, el papel que juega dentro de la sociedad civil el proyecto: Yo no coopero con la dictadura. Se finalizó con la interpretación de una parábola china del Siglo XIV titulada "Yo Amo a los Monos", que trata sobre el poder político. Participaron miembros de diferentes organizaciones de la oposición interna, bibliotecarios independientes y ciudadanos del pueblo. La BI María Cabrales, realizó el viernes 20 de octubre de 2006, una actividad por el Congreso, en la que participaron 14 disidentes, la directora de la biblioteca es Noelia Pedraza Jiménez. La dirección es Prolongación de Martha Abreu No. 93 C entre B y C, Reparto virginia, Santa Clara. Durante la reunión se discutió sobre la importancia de los libros y su lectura, y en particular de las bibliotecas.
El día 17 de octubre de 2006, en horas de la mañana se efectuó una reunión de 3 bibliotecas de Cienfuegos, en la sede de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil en esta provincia, sita en Ave. 64 No. 7504 entre 75 y 77, Reparto Tulipán, Cienfuegos, teléfono 5343 515805. Se debatió la situación de las bibliotecas, el acoso que existe por la policía política y la escasez de literatura que tienen. Como enfrentar estos retos, para darle cumplimiento a los acuerdos del Congreso de Bibliotecas de dar actividades en la misma. Estuvieron presentes los directores de las bibliotecas: José A. García Taguada, Martiana Independiente y Jóvenes de Jagua.
El día 20 de octubre de 2006, también en horas de la mañana, en la sede de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil de Cienfuegos, se reunieron para celebrar el día de la Cultura Cubana, y en particular el día de las bibliotecas, se explicó cómo se está llevando a la población, literatura que pueda leer, sin prohibiciones. Estaban presentes personas que nunca habían participado en actividades y pudieron oír las opiniones y la forma de trabajar de todas las bibliotecas.
Estas dos informaciones fueron dadas por Pedro Castellanos, delegado en Cienfuegos de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil.
El día 20 de octubre del 2006, a las 4 de la tarde, se realizó una actividad en la BI Walt Whitman, sita en la calle 1ra. No. 5, Reparto José Martí, en Camagüey. Se tocó el tema de la Lectura sin Censura una Opción para Formar Hombres Libres de la autoría de Ramón Colás. Entonaron las notas del Himno Nacional e hicieron un brindis a favor de la definitiva libertad de Cuba.
El día 20 de octubre del 2006, el Partido Cubano Demócrata Cristiano a las 8 pm, en su sede, en el domicilio de su delegado Roberto Marrero de la Rosa, sito en 4ta. Paralela No. 583 entre San José y Miguel Gómez, Final, Reparto Flora, en Camagüey, celebró una actividad, con el motivo de dar apoyo y respaldo incondicional al 1er. Congreso de Bibliotecas Independientes y la Campaña de No Cooperación con la Dictadura. Se condenó enérgicamente el abuso de que han sido objeto varios bibliotecarios y presos políticos, por parte de los agentes de la Seguridad del Estado y sus secuases, se dio a conocer la importancia del Congreso para la oposición interna, y por esta razón se debatió ampliamente toda la información que poseen sobre el mismo.

La Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil, quiere dar a conocer la siguiente información, sobre el I Congreso de Bibliotecas Independientes:
Miguel santana Breto de la Alianza Democrática Oriental, le comunicó a la Asamblea que el lunes 18 de octubre de 2006, a las 8 y 30 de la mañana, le hicieron un registro en la casa a Eliécer Consuegra Rivas, calle Celia Sánchez Manduley No. 33, Antilla, Holguín, y le ocuparon todos los libros de la Biblioteca Independiente Wenceslao Aguilera. Está citado para la unidad de la policía. Hay que destacar que su biblioteca, no se encuentra en Congreso.
También reporta, que a las 3:45 de la tarde del día 20 de octubre del 2006, un disidente de Holguín, nombrado Juan Carlos Reyes Ocaño, le comunicó _vía telefónica- que al Presidente del Movimiento Claridad, Lorenzo García, le decomisaron la biblioteca, todos los libros, una máquina de escribir, una plancha de plasticar, un radio, entre otras cosas. Tanto el decomiso como el disidente, fueron conducidos al Foso Judicial. Esta biblioteca tampoco se encuentra en Congreso.
En Pinar del Río se celebró una actividad el día 20 de octubre, en la BI Elena Mederos, su directora es Blanca Rivera Sánchez, está en la calle Alameda 266 entre Proyecto e Isabel Rosas, en Pinar del Río. El objetivo fue saludar el Congreso y el día de la Cultura Nacional. Asistieron varios miembros de la sociedad civil, bibliotecarios independientes y activistas pro democracia. Se acordó por varias bibliotecas, que estaban allí representadas por sus directores, comenzar en Congreso por la democracia. Ellas son: Levi Marrero, Olga Digna Fernández, Martin Luther King, Polo Montañez y Simón Bolívar.
Manuel Rodríguez Chirolde, director de la BI Olga Digna Fernández, sita en Ave. Rafael Ferro No.638, en Pinar del Río, el día 5 de octubre a las cinco de la tarde fue hostigado por un oficial de la Seguridad del Estado que se hizo nombrar Juan Carlos, acompañado de los "factores" de la zona donde él vive. Vecinos del barrio, con mucho miedo, le dijeeron que los "factores" están vigilando que a su biblioteca no vayan personas que no sean los que acostumbran a ir, y si esto ocurre, el CDR (Comité de Defensa de la Revolución) tiene que informar inmediatamente, para comunicárselo a la Seguridad del Estado.
Esta información de la provincia de Pinar del Río, llegó a la Asamblea a través de su delegado Eliosbel Garriga.
El 22 de octubre del 2006, se realizó la primera actividad de la BI El Apóstol, sita en calle 8 No.25 entre B y C Reparto Simoni, Camagüey. Se habló sobre la importancia de la lectura sin censura, el papel que juega dentro de la sociedad civil el proyecto: Yo no coopero con la dictadura. Se finalizó con la interpretación de una parábola china del Siglo XIV titulada "Yo Amo a los Monos", que trata sobre el poder político. Participaron miembros de diferentes organizaciones de la oposición interna, bibliotecarios independientes y ciudadanos del pueblo. Esta información la suministró desde Camagüey, José Antonio Mola Porro, delegado de la Asamblea para Promover la Sociedad Civil.

Please read in quiet whisper
Hush! The media is silent these days concerning the dictator. They have no clue if he is dead, partially dead, cancerous, or has diarrhea. Please! Remember you have to read this post in a small whisper, I have a suggestion for the media: Since you don’t know what’s going on with the saga “ The death or The un-death of a dictator, a few suggestions: Just maybe you can run a story on political prisoners, atrocities committed by the apartheid regime, and oh yes! Why no freedom in Cuba(Now don’t use the usual blame the exile story).
To bad Lucia Newman is still not in Cuba, for sure she would have the scoop! NOT! Wait a minute we still have CNN in Havana! NO WAY! Is Dan Rather out of retirement? I am sure he would get to the bottom of this! Should I continue my freedom-loving brethren? Forget about it!
This brings me to a funny in a strange, sad kind of way conversation. This weekend I was engaged in a conversation about Cuba. I was met with this opening topic: “Did you know about how the people of Cuba have to stand in line for food, that they have rations, that they are not really allowed freedom?” I said “Really?” “Funny, Cubans have been saying this for over 47 years!” I am thinking to myself, everyone that knows me and has mentioned the topic of Cuba, usually gets a history and reality lesson concerning Cuba and I am still getting ‘lectured” from those that suddenly just happen to stumble on this. I had this strange sad feeling that no matter “how much” you really try to discuss the truth concerning Cuba, people don’t listen. Can you imagine the political prisoners and how they feel? That is why I have no tolerance for the media and the journalist who have spread lies and supported the myth of the dictator.
Just watch decades from now a movie will suddenly burst out about on to scene concerning the “reality” of the revolution and people will say” I did not know that really happened?” yet thousands have died in Cuba and for what? For mankind’s who cares attitude towards tyrants? Nobody deserves this, even Cubans!

La fragancia inmortal de una Rosa

La noticia llegó por teléfono y se propagó con la celeridad con que las malas nuevas corren. Rosa Berre, la editora ejecutiva y co-fundadora de CubaNet.org, murió y ganó su puesto en la historia y en el corazón de la Prensa Independiente de Cuba. Todos andamos consternados y doloridos.
CubaNet nació en la cocina de su hogar en el exilio. Nació bautizado con el amor de la sazón familiar y con el necesario aporte de su esposo, el periodista Carlos Quintela. CubaNet se convirtió con el tiempo, con el esfuerzo y el talento de Rosa, en la página más emblemática de la Prensa Independiente de Cuba.
Cuba y su futuro de libertad han perdido tanto como cada periodista independiente. Todos andamos huérfanos de su aliento y su magisterio, porque Rosa entre otras cosas, enseñó a pensar en términos de tolerancia.
Somos muchos los que debemos oficio y oportunidades a Doña Rosa. Desde CubaNet, nos dio el santo y seña de la palabra democracia. Nos enseñó el camino y no contenta con eso, nos ayudó a andar por él, con profesionalidad y decoro.
Roguemos al Dios que la llamó a su lado, que bendiga su obra. Que le conceda la misma porción de inmortalidad, que se lleva consigo. Cuba conservará para siempre su aliento, su fragancia inmortal de Rosa consagrada a la libertad.

A CALL TO SOLIDARITY WITH DOCTOR PULIDO, A PEACEFUL CUBAN POLITICAL PRISONER
Havana, October 19, 2006- Doctor Alfredo Manuel Pulido López, a stomatologist, led the Christian Liberation Movement and the Varela Project campaign, along with Alejandro González Raga, in Camagüey province. After March 2003 they were each sentenced to fourteen years in prison. They are two of the “Cuban Spring” prisoners.
They are confined in the horrific prison of "Kilo 7" in Camagüey alongside common prisoners, some of them very dangerous. It is a common practice of the State Security and the prison guards to regularly use criminal prisoners to harass peaceful political prisoners.
Doctor Pulido worked at a dental clinic of the Public Health department until he was detained for his peaceful civic activities. He was well-known and respected by hundreds of patients whom he cared for with dedication. Nevertheless, he was treated without any respect in a swift trial that could not have been any less false and unjust.
He has already been in prison for three years and seven months and continues to preserve his values and principles and his love for the people of Cuba and for liberty and he has not succumbed, or accepted to be “reeducated” as his jailers propose, who remain ingrained with the methodology of Stalinist jails and Chinese Communists, of stomping the heart of those who have the courage to raise their heads and their voices in the face of totalitarian oppression.
What has been the price paid for this dignified and serene attitude? Doctor Alfredo Pulido is victim to a systematic process of physical and psychological annihilation.
He suffers from a chronic gastritis, his bodyweight is almost that of his bones, he vomits almost everything he eats and he certainly cannot eat the concentration camp meals that the prison provides. He suffers from horrible and repeated discomfort in one eye that has a stabbing pain that is truly unbearable for a human being, and he also has ischemic cardiopathy. He has cervical osteoporosis, which puts him in danger of suffering a trauma that can completely paralyze him, and could be very likely in the inhumane conditions in which he is imprisoned. It is a cruel irony that this dentist, who has treated so many people, is losing many of his own teeth.
A prison psychiatrist coldly told him that "he was not adapting to prison life and that he could ultimately suffer a heart attack."
Doctor Alfredo, his wife Rebeca and his 19-year-old son together suffer this cruel separation and every minute of this unjust detainment. This punishment is inhumane and absolutely unjust against a doctor, who only devoted himself to treating his fellow man, and who at the same time was a human rights defender and independent journalist. He did not commit any crime, nor did he commit or plan any act of violence, nor did he conspire, but rather he only proclaimed openly and transparently the right of human beings to have rights and he worked on the Varela Project. That is why he is in prison. In the trial against Pulido, the prosecutor accused him of enemy activity and of "fabricating denunciations of supposed human rights violations."
Doctor Pulido endures permanent stress that deteriorates him physically and psychologically and his life is in peril. The prison psychiatrist is right, “he could suffer a heart attack."
Our call is, first and foremost, to all stomatologists around the world, to appeal for the liberation of your colleague whose life is wearing away, but we also call to all those who love justice to raise their voices to save Doctor Pulido.

POR LA SOLIDARIDAD CON EL DOCTOR PULIDO, UN PRISIONERO POLÍTICO PACIFICO CUBANO
La Habana, 19 de octubre de 2006- El Doctor Alfredo Manuel Pulido López, estomatólogo, junto a Alejandro González Raga, dirigía el Movimiento Cristiano Liberación y la campaña del Proyecto Varela en la provincia de Camagüey. Después de Marzo del 2003 fueron condenados a catorce años de prisión cada uno. Son dos de Los Prisioneros de la Primavera de Cuba.
Están confinados en la dantesca prisión de "Kilo 7" en Camagüey junto con prisioneros comunes, algunos de ellos muy peligrosos. Es una práctica de la Seguridad del Estado y los guardias de los penales utilizar de manera regulada, a delincuentes prisioneros para acosar a prisioneros políticos pacíficos.
El Doctor Pulido, trabajó en una clínica dental de la Salud Publica hasta que fue detenido por sus actividades cívicas pacíficas. Era conocido y respetado por cientos de pacientes a los que atendía con dedicación. Sin embargo fue tratado sin ningún respeto en el juicio sumario y no por eso menos falso e injusto.
Ya lleva tres anos y siete meses en prisión y continua sosteniendo sus valores y principios y su amor por el pueblo de Cuba y por la libertad y no ha querido someterse, ni aceptar "reeducarse" como les proponen sus verdugos, que persisten en la metodología de las cárceles estalinistas y de los comunistas chinos, de pisotear el alma de los que tienen el valor de levantar la cabeza y la voz frente a la opresión totalitaria.
¿Cual ha sido el costo de esta actitud digna y serena? El Doctor Alfredo Pulido es victima de un proceso sistemático de aniquilamiento físico y psíquico.
Sufre una gastritis crónica, su peso corporal es casi el de sus huesos, vomita casi todo lo que come y por cierto no puede comer la comida de campo de concentración que ofrecen en la prisión. Padece de dolores horribles y repetidos en un ojo con una punzada agudísima verdaderamente insoportable para un ser humano, tiene además una cardiopatía isquemia. Tiene osteoporosis cervical, por lo que está en peligro de sufrir un trauma que le deje inválido totalmente y algo muy probable en las condiciones inhumanas en que está encarcelado. Es una ironía cruel que a este dentista, que ha curado a tantas personas se le hayan caído muchos de sus dientes.
Una psiquiatra del penal le dijo fríamente que "el no se adaptaba a la prisión y que finalmente le podía dar un infarto."
El Doctor Alfredo, su esposa Rebeca y su hijo de 19 años, sufren juntos esta separación cruel y cada minuto de este encierro injusto. Este castigo es inhumano y absolutamente injusto contra un medico, que solo se dedicaba a curar a sus semejantes y que a su vez era un defensor de los Derechos Humanos y periodista independiente. No cometió delito alguno, no hizo ni preparó, ningún acto de violencia, no conspiró, solo proclamaba abierta y transparentemente el derecho de los seres humanos tener derechos y trabajaba en el Proyecto Varela. Por eso está en prisión. En el juicio contra Pulido, el fiscal lo acusó de actividad enemiga y de "elaborar denuncias de supuestas violaciones de derechos humanos."
El Doctor Pulido está sometido a un stress permanente que lo deteriora física y psíquicamente y su vida corre peligro. La psiquiatra del penal tiene razón, "puede darle un infarto."
Nuestro llamado es, en primer lugar, a todos los estomatólogos del mundo para que reclamen la liberación de este colega suyo cuya vida se apaga, pero también llamamos a todos los que aman la justicia a levantar su voz para salvar al Doctor Pulido.

He has already been in prison for three years and seven months and continues to preserve his values and principles and his love for the people of Cuba and for liberty and he has not succumbed, or accepted to be “reeducated” as his jailers propose, who remain ingrained with the methodology of Stalinist jails and Chinese Communists, of stomping the heart of those who have the courage to raise their heads and their voices in the face of totalitarian oppression.
What has been the price paid for this dignified and serene attitude? Doctor Alfredo Pulido is victim to a systematic process of physical and psychological annihilation.
He suffers from a chronic gastritis, his bodyweight is almost that of his bones, he vomits almost everything he eats and he certainly cannot eat the concentration camp meals that the prison provides. He suffers from horrible and repeated discomfort in one eye that has a stabbing pain that is truly unbearable for a human being, and he also has ischemic cardiopathy. He has cervical osteoporosis, which puts him in danger of suffering a trauma that can completely paralyze him, and could be very likely in the inhumane conditions in which he is imprisoned. It is a cruel irony that this dentist, who has treated so many people, is losing many of his own teeth.
A prison psychiatrist coldly told him that "he was not adapting to prison life and that he could ultimately suffer a heart attack."
Doctor Alfredo, his wife Rebeca and his 19-year-old son together suffer this cruel separation and every minute of this unjust detainment. This punishment is inhumane and absolutely unjust against a doctor, who only devoted himself to treating his fellow man, and who at the same time was a human rights defender and independent journalist. He did not commit any crime, nor did he commit or plan any act of violence, nor did he conspire, but rather he only proclaimed openly and transparently the right of human beings to have rights and he worked on the Varela Project. That is why he is in prison. In the trial against Pulido, the prosecutor accused him of enemy activity and of "fabricating denunciations of supposed human rights violations."
Doctor Pulido endures permanent stress that deteriorates him physically and psychologically and his life is in peril. The prison psychiatrist is right, “he could suffer a heart attack."
Our call is, first and foremost, to all stomatologists around the world, to appeal for the liberation of your colleague whose life is wearing away, but we also call to all those who love justice to raise their voices to save Doctor Pulido.

POR LA SOLIDARIDAD CON EL DOCTOR PULIDO, UN PRISIONERO POLÍTICO PACIFICO CUBANO
La Habana, 19 de octubre de 2006- El Doctor Alfredo Manuel Pulido López, estomatólogo, junto a Alejandro González Raga, dirigía el Movimiento Cristiano Liberación y la campaña del Proyecto Varela en la provincia de Camagüey. Después de Marzo del 2003 fueron condenados a catorce años de prisión cada uno. Son dos de Los Prisioneros de la Primavera de Cuba.
Están confinados en la dantesca prisión de "Kilo 7" en Camagüey junto con prisioneros comunes, algunos de ellos muy peligrosos. Es una práctica de la Seguridad del Estado y los guardias de los penales utilizar de manera regulada, a delincuentes prisioneros para acosar a prisioneros políticos pacíficos.
El Doctor Pulido, trabajó en una clínica dental de la Salud Publica hasta que fue detenido por sus actividades cívicas pacíficas. Era conocido y respetado por cientos de pacientes a los que atendía con dedicación. Sin embargo fue tratado sin ningún respeto en el juicio sumario y no por eso menos falso e injusto.
Ya lleva tres anos y siete meses en prisión y continua sosteniendo sus valores y principios y su amor por el pueblo de Cuba y por la libertad y no ha querido someterse, ni aceptar "reeducarse" como les proponen sus verdugos, que persisten en la metodología de las cárceles estalinistas y de los comunistas chinos, de pisotear el alma de los que tienen el valor de levantar la cabeza y la voz frente a la opresión totalitaria.
¿Cual ha sido el costo de esta actitud digna y serena? El Doctor Alfredo Pulido es victima de un proceso sistemático de aniquilamiento físico y psíquico.
Sufre una gastritis crónica, su peso corporal es casi el de sus huesos, vomita casi todo lo que come y por cierto no puede comer la comida de campo de concentración que ofrecen en la prisión. Padece de dolores horribles y repetidos en un ojo con una punzada agudísima verdaderamente insoportable para un ser humano, tiene además una cardiopatía isquemia. Tiene osteoporosis cervical, por lo que está en peligro de sufrir un trauma que le deje inválido totalmente y algo muy probable en las condiciones inhumanas en que está encarcelado. Es una ironía cruel que a este dentista, que ha curado a tantas personas se le hayan caído muchos de sus dientes.
Una psiquiatra del penal le dijo fríamente que "el no se adaptaba a la prisión y que finalmente le podía dar un infarto."
El Doctor Alfredo, su esposa Rebeca y su hijo de 19 años, sufren juntos esta separación cruel y cada minuto de este encierro injusto. Este castigo es inhumano y absolutamente injusto contra un medico, que solo se dedicaba a curar a sus semejantes y que a su vez era un defensor de los Derechos Humanos y periodista independiente. No cometió delito alguno, no hizo ni preparó, ningún acto de violencia, no conspiró, solo proclamaba abierta y transparentemente el derecho de los seres humanos tener derechos y trabajaba en el Proyecto Varela. Por eso está en prisión. En el juicio contra Pulido, el fiscal lo acusó de actividad enemiga y de "elaborar denuncias de supuestas violaciones de derechos humanos."
El Doctor Pulido está sometido a un stress permanente que lo deteriora física y psíquicamente y su vida corre peligro. La psiquiatra del penal tiene razón, "puede darle un infarto."
Nuestro llamado es, en primer lugar, a todos los estomatólogos del mundo para que reclamen la liberación de este colega suyo cuya vida se apaga, pero también llamamos a todos los que aman la justicia a levantar su voz para salvar al Doctor Pulido.

Slip of the tongue
Not a good week for the commies. Mr. Sulfur spent $1.1 billion trying to buy a seat on the security council and is getting a international whipping! "Short duck" Kim Jong Il is now saying "sorry" after big brother China sent him to his room for a time out.
Now this brings me to Lula "la loca." Mr. loose lips accidentally blurted out that the old crusty dictator was dead! Can you imagine that? Mr. loose lips also 'blurted" out that the dictator had cancer way before anyone in the press reported it. Lula is also having many problems and scandals at home.
Is the dictator dead? Politically and those boring 8 hour speeches, Yes! Physically? Everything seems to point out that he is, but El Cafe Cubano will not officially announce it. The dictator has not been seen for over a month, Lula 'accidentally" calls him dead, Raulita is now in his brother's office, the deal with the devil has expired, and that thing about the 'scream" followed by a foul smelling odor reported by confidential sources. Is the dictator's body now in Spain? C'mon journalist do your job!

Good afternoon. I am delighted to be here today with so many individuals, government and non governmental organizations’ representatives committed to promote democratic principles around the world, and to help bring about democratic change in Cuba.
I thank Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutiérrez, Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky, Governor Jeb Bush, Senator Mel Martínez and our three members of Congress – Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln Díaz-Balart and Mario Díaz-Balart – for their efforts in bringing us together for this Summit, and for the opportunity to address this distinguished audience on the important subject of international solidarity – as it relates to the plight of the Cuban people under totalitarian rule during almost half a century.
I am indeed grateful to many of you who, having been able to break the chains of tyranny, have not forgotten those who still live under its yoke; and to those of you who represent governments that have chosen to stand up for the rights of the Cuban people in their unrelenting struggle to free themselves from an oppressive system that is responsible for inflicting so much misery and suffering – not only in Cuba but in this Hemisphere, where it has for more than four decades threatened its security and stability.
I salute those of you, who risked everything for freedom, and specifically thank the representatives of East and Central European countries that were themselves victims of communist regimes, for sharing your transition experiences and lessons learned with us. We truly appreciate your leadership, guidance and support through “Friends of a Democratic Cuba” as we strive together towards accelerating the dawn of freedom on Cuban soil.
The organization I represent, Mothers & Women against Repression (M.A.R. por Cuba) was founded in 1994 as a non governmental organization committed to help bring about fundamental liberties to the Cuban people. M.A.R. is dedicated to uphold respect for human rights, to promote democratic values, to raise awareness of Cuba’s reality and to enlist international solidarity for Cuba’s freedom. M.A.R. has established close ties with members of the pro-democracy movement and of the independent civil society in the island.
Among our international activities, for the past six years we have sponsored a Human Rights Parallel Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, set to coincide with the annual meeting of the former United Nations Commission on Human rights.
This parallel forum has consistently provided a much-needed tribune to victims of the worst human rights’ violators that sat on the former Commission and continue to sit, unfortunately, on the newly appointed Council, to silence the voices of those they oppress.
We have attended international conferences; met with parliamentarians at the European Union in Brussels and at the French National Assembly in Paris; traveled to host cities of international summits -- such as the annual Iberoamerican Summit which this year will take place shortly in Montevideo, Uruguay – attended meetings with Presidents, First Ladies, former Presidents and representatives of democratic governments, participated in press conferences and sponsored centers of information on Cuba’s political prisoners and repression, among many of the activities in which the organization is involved, doing all that we can to advance our cause. We know, as you do, the meaning and importance of international solidarity.
No one can deny that we are at a critical and defining moment for the future of Cuba.
Beyond the demise of a ruthless dictator, the Cuban people strive to bring a cruel and long-standing dictatorship to an end. But, we need your help in order to avoid the consolidation of the regime’s planned succession. Succession is not an option. The Cuban Nation is committed to nothing more, and will accept nothing less, than true democratic change.
Although many factors can come into play, it is essential for democratic governments and the international community to reach out to Cuba’s pro-democracy movement and emerging independent civil society within the island to ensure that, despite the regime’s brutal repression, it continues to grow, strengthen and receive the solidarity that it needs.
It is of the utmost importance that a well conceived, coordinated and cohesive action plan with concrete steps be developed in order to avoid policies that will only serve to legitimize the regime’s stay in power in the eyes of the world, in detriment of the Cuban people. This plan should be aimed at empowering all those courageous men and women who are standing up for their rights and ideals despite fear of retaliation, incarceration or death.
Today, more than ever, they need to know that the international community stands with them, raises its voice for them and denounces crimes and abuses committed against them. They also are in dire need of resources to carry out their civic and peaceful struggle effectively.
Your support is extremely important, as well as your commitment to enlist the support of others within the international community of democracies.
The exile community has never wavered in its resolve and determination to support the internal democratic opposition. The pro-democracy movement in the island and our organizations in exile are constantly moving towards developing consensus positions on the core principles that unite us in favor of a genuine transition to democracy in Cuba. Providing material and logistical support are also crucial in this stage of the movement.
Some examples of this unity of purpose of the Cuban Nation – in the island and in exile - was the 10-point “Agreement for Democracy” reached in February of 1998, subscribed by a broad spectrum of organizations.
Another is the campaign launched on July 25th of this year by political prisoners and activists from within Cuba who called for “non cooperation with the dictatorship”. This initiative is being promoted by more than 45 organizations in exile and numerous groups within the island. This plea from political prisoners has brought us together, and we stand united in support of the “non cooperation campaign”, targeted at all the Cuban people on the island, the exile community and the international community.
Another example of cooperation and unity between those in the island and in exile is the 5-point action plan signed this week by the Cuban Patriotic Forum, which is comprised of important exile organizations -- among them umbrella exile groups -- and the Assembly to Promote Civil Society in Cuba, headed by Martha Beatriz Roque, a coalition of more than 300 independent groups in the island.
The time has come to unite as human beings who share the same values against dictatorships intent on destroying them. Towards that end, I propose the creation of an “International Democratic Solidarity Coalition” that brings us together against totalitarianism and strengthens the ties that bind us, so that our words translate into actions, and our hopes convert into dreams fulfilled.
In closing, I want to share with you an excerpt from Elie Wiesel’s Nobel Peace prize acceptance speech, which states:
“There is much to be done, there is so much that can be done. One person – a Raoul Wallenberg, an Albert Schweitzer, a Martin Luther King jr. – one person of integrity can make a difference, a difference of life and death. As long as one dissident is in prison, our freedom will not be true. As long as one child is hungry, our life will be filled with anguish and shame. What all these victims need above all is to know that they are not alone; that we are not forgetting them, that when their voices are stifled we shall lend them ours, that while their freedom depends on ours, the quality of our freedom depends on theirs”.
Those were the words of a great and extraordinary man.
Today, we speak with one voice. And that voice – in any language – rings freedom!
Cuba will soon be free. And on that day, we will not forget those who helped us, as we embrace on Cuban soil and say again:
